New Tree Stuffs

Hi all,

I just got a new batch of tree textures from my texture artist, and I'm very pleased with the direction in which he took it.
Final leaf texture with the WIP trunk and (final?) coconuts. They're only for the extended ending, so I guess I'll worry about them if time allows me to.

The tree (so far)

Looking down at the new bark. You can really see the texture, here.

and finally, the coconuts. I love the bump mapping around the holes. Looks awesome.

So that's all I've got for now, but I'll be posting the old man character model soon... hopefully tomorrow morning.

Tree Textures (WIP)

Just some work-in-progress shots of my palm leaves. I've got my friend Justin Monnier working on them, and I think they're coming out really well. Again, this is just a rough pass, but I love the faux paint texture going on.

I'm in love with those ridges on the back left leaf.

And here it is with the bump mapping turned up a bit. Not sure which one I like better.

WIP: 3D Previz

Here's what I've got so far for my 3D Previz. I like how things are working. Not sure about the dog growl for his stomach... I'm only using it now because it was the best growl I could find. Maybe I should just go with a real stomach growl. That'll be a hard one to record.

EDIT: Yikes! Sorry about the quality, folks. I'm gonna have to get a Vimeo account for these things.

Island's Done!

After a few weeks of hard work, I'm done with the island. I think it's working really well. The clamshell design is really doing it for me.

The trunk is fully rigged, so I can move it around for the later scenes.

The leaves are rigged, too, so I can animate wind resistance.

I threw some coconuts up there to be used in my extremely awesome new ending I've been hatching up. I'm working it into my previz, and it should be up here in a few days.

But yeah. Island. Totally awesome. I like it a lot. So I've UVed (mostly) everything and have shipped out texture maps for my texture artist (super amazing digital painter Justin Monnier) to start working on.

Now all I have to do is make this ocean work.

Ugh.

WIP Model: The Old Man

Here's what I've got for the old man so far. I'm about 50% done with the head, just have to add the beard and fix the eye areas. As for the body, I'm digging this. I need to smooth out everything once it's done, make him look fleshy and soft, but I think that this general form is really working out. I'll keep posting updates as I hit them.

The whale is done! I think he looks pretty spot-on. He's rigged, he's skinned, he's ready to go. I'll get a video on here demonstrating the rig soon.

Model: Soup Can

The soup can! If you scroll down, you'll notice the design has changed a bit. I decided that something simpler would be better for the happy-go-lucky, fun feel I'm going for. I wanted something that people could look at and instantly know that it's a can of soup. Now it's less of a Campbell's homage, and more of a generic, simplified idea of what soup is. I like it a lot, and I think it's going to look great in the old man's hands.
